impact of E.U membership

The blog`s policy is to abstain from entering the political arena.

Unfortunately economics and politics sometimes intertwine.

Poland is currently ruled by a coalition known as the "United right"

( jednoczona prawica )comprised of 2 parties, the much bigger one is PIS

and the smaller is Solidarna Polska.

Solidarna Polska believes that Poland should relinquish membership of the E.U ( Polexit ).

As part of the above policy a member of the European Parlament belonging to

that party by the name of Patrik Jaki issued a report backed by 2 professors

Tomasz Gross from the Warsaw university and Zbigniew Krysiak from the Warsaw

School of economics. according to their report, since the inception of Poland`s

membership in the E.U i.e. 1.4.2004 until today, such membership has resulted in

a loss of 535 milliard PLN.

An answer was quick to follow. The Polish economic institute (PIE -Polskich Instytut

ekonomiczny ) executed research of the issue. their results were completely contradictory.

According to their research Polish annual GDP is 31% higher than, had Poland declined entering the E.U. The PIE has added more detailed information. Had Poland not been

a member of the E.U, annual GDP would be equivalent to Polish GDP in 2014.

currently Polish GDP per capita levelled according to purchasing power stands at

78% of the European average. Without membership it would have been standing at

60%. 20% of Polish jobs are directly emanating from such membership.

What led the increase in GDP was an increase of exports due the wide market that

has been opened for Poland, as a result of joining the E.U. Currently Poland has a surplus

in its balance of goods. 24 milliard EURO according to the country of dispatch and 60 milliard EURO according to country of origin.
